Nestlé’s limited edition Sublime Gold KitKat – covered in a very thin layer of edible gold leaf and described as having a rich, bitter chocolate taste – went on sale at chocolate boutiques in eight swank department stores in Japan in late December. There will also be an opportunity to win an actual, 24-karat gold version of the iconic chocolate bar. Weighing in at 230 grams (8.1 ounces), customers who sign up for the Chocolatory membership program in January will be in the running to win the unique item.
Only 500 of the gold leaf-covered KitKat bars were to be sold in Japan, only a single finger at a time for ¥2,016 or around $16.
Nestlé has produced over 200 flavors since introducing the bars to Japan in 1973. Japan is the only place where one can enjoy such a variety of KitKat flavors. One reason for this is because gift giving is such a prevalent part of Japanese culture. KitKat is traditionally a four-fingered chocolate bar which is sold around the world, but comes in about 30 different flavors in Japan. Flavors include strawberry, green tea, wasabi,( related to horseradish, is a notoriously hot Japanese condiment served with sushi and sashimi,) Okinawan sweet potato, Yokohama cheese cake and Kobe pudding.

One can only imagine the lengths that some went to in order to secure this pricey, limited edition chocolate bar that was covered in edible gold leaf! The Bible speaks of something of great value, which is worth going to great lengths to secure. What would you do to receive this item of great worth? Well you can start by reading about it–
Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchant man, seeking goodly pearls: 46 Who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it. (Matthew 13:45, 46)
You do not have to pay money to receive the entry into heaven like the man buying pearls of great price–you just have to:
- believe that Jesus Christ is Lord and that he died, was buried, and rose again so that He might offer you eternal life
- acknowledge and repent of the sins you know that Christ died for in your place
- turn from those sins and know that He has accepted you, changed your heart, and will be with you to help you live your daily life for His glory and in His strength
You are always welcome to ask us questions about this if you need to. We are ready to share how we found eternal life, a goodly heritage for now and for the future.
If you know Christ as your Savior already, we can rejoice and be filled with hope today, because we know that He has gone before us to ‘prepare a place’ for us in heaven (John 14:2).
