So what is winter like in your area? We are just about 15 minutes south of the 45th parallel on the Japan Sea side of Hokkaido. That means winds and systems come across from Siberia and pick up moisture and the sky falls out here, sometimes several days in a row. This year’s amount of snow is by far one of the most we can remember experiencing. Here is a view of our area! But first two photos that show the comparison of where the 45th is!
Japan is to the far right as you can see across from Russian and the long skinny island above Hokkaido is also Russia. Sapporo Japan Hokkaido is the capitol of our island,. We are just below that red line in the skinny part of Hokkaido at the top.
In this photo you can see where the 45th parallel runs through the USA. So no wonder we get snow! Oh and how long? It start usually the first part of November and isn’t completely melted until May!
This is the s the carport and walk area back to the house entry area. Notice we keep our windshield wipers up for ease of getting snow off the car after a blizzard. I have lost count of all the blizzards this year.
This is the entry door to the church part of the building. There are three steps there but you can only see a bit of the top.
Blizzard look!
We are very thankful for our next door neighbor who uses his little scoop dump to keep the snow off the road in front of our place! We are responsible for the road in front of our property because there are no sidewalks. We open right onto the street.
